Perching Female Barn Owl

Description

One of my favourite UK owl species.

Enjoy! :)

Barn Owl - Tyto alba

Info from RSPB:

With heart shaped face, buff back and wings and pure white under parts the barn owl is a distinctive and much loved countryside bird. Widely distributed across the UK, and indeed the world, the bird has suffered declines over the past fifty years as a result of the degradation of once prey-rich habitats in the face of intensive agricultural practices. This decline, fortunately, has halted in many areas and the population may now be increasing.

I took this on a trip organised by Danny Green. I loved it. If you want to spend a day out with a world class photographer who has a genuine passion for nature then look him up!

Edit: Minor change to cropping after getting some useful feedback. Thanks all! I think it looks better now.

First off, wow I love how you captured the owl just chilling out on a dead branch. Like he's thinkin about what to do next. The DOF is absolutley amazing. You can see every detail where you need to see it and really makes him look like a majestic creature. I also love the colors and the tones of this picture and how the owl contrasts against the browns with his whites and orange (looks orange to me anyways).
The only thing I really find distracting about this shot would be the amount of 'dead space' above the owl. The background above the owl is kind of distracting since there is nothing really leading you back to the owl. This also takes away from the impact I think. Maybe cropping it a little bit would help with this.
I really hope I have been helpful because this is the first critique I have given, but this is certainly an excellent shot
