A Red Kite at Gigrin Farm in Mid Wales.

Enjoy! :)

Red Kite - Milvus milvus
Wingspan 145-165cm

Easily told in flight by long, bowed wings and deeply forked tail, constantly twisted as aid to flight control. Seen perched, bird looks reddish with pale grey head; yellow feet and black-tipped yellow bill only visible at close range. Seen from below in flight, shows reddish chest, pale grey patches on wings and grey tail; from above, tail looks red and wings brown except for dark flight feathers. Has stronghold in C Wales but successfully reintroduced to several locations in England and S Scotland; population appears to be growing.

Nice one mate.
Stunning aren't they?
The air must have been full of their wonderfully erie calls. I must go there myself one day.

Thanks Sheryl, yes you have to get up there, you'd love it. The air was filled with the calls of the kites, the buzzards, the crows and the ravens - quite amazing.

I hate the rain but it does give some great light. This whole series is very well done, Nick.
BTW, are your TCs Canon?
I read your exchange with Justin and I agree with your comments. I too, use a 300mm/2.8L and most of the time it's mounted with a CANON 2X II.
