I was out and about this afternoon when I spotted a Buzzard sitting low in a tree - perfect photo opportunity I thought. But by the time I'd got the camera out of my backpack it had obviously got fed up with me being nearby and took off! I had set the camera up to take a still shot of it on a slightly shaded branch so wasn't really geared up for an in flight shot against a bright sky but I managed to get a few keepers as it circled around before heading off into the distance.
Enjoy!
Buzzard - Buteo buteo Wingspan 115-125cm
The commonest large raptor seen in W and N England, Wales and Scotland. Formerly much persecuted despite fact that diet comprises mainly earthworms and carrion in many areas. Draws attention to itself in flight with mewing calls. Rides thermals with ease on broad, rounded wings, held in 'v' shape when soaring. Perches for long periods on posts and dead branches. Plumage colour extremely variable but usually some shade of brown; wings barred and tail uniformly banded. Prefers farmland for feeding with nearby woods for nesting.
No I didn't do a whole heap of photography last year but I did enter a few pics the year before. They used one of my photos in their calendar last year (Kestrel in the wildflower meadow). I might have time to enter a few this year with any luck. How about you?
yeah tell me about. there was one guy who I was never gonna come close to beating last year - I won't name names but hes there weekly. I don't have that sort of time to visit the same place. Would much rather be out shooting wildlife rather than captive animals (despite the fact I love the HCT).
